Family owned and operated since it’s establishment, Telluride Music Company began as Sheridan Music in 1992. Originally opened by Neil Wilkie and located in a small space in the historic Liberty Bell building on South Spruce Street, it provided a selection of CD music, strings and accessories for the local music folks in Telluride. Shortly after it’s opening a small number of acoustic guitars were added to the inventory selection and a year later a Martin Guitar authorized dealership was granted.
Slowly the business began to take a hold and the need to move into a larger space became necessary. A great opportunity provided itself in 1996 in the historic Sheridan Pool Hall building which was located near by at 201 East Colorado Avenue next to North Spruce Park. It is at this location that Telluride Music continues to operate today.
Shortly after the move to Colorado Avenue the business was acquired by Dave and Karen Lamb. The Lamb’s had been drawn to the Telluride area years earlier while working for the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Upon the acquisition a new transformation for Telluride Music Company immediately began to take place. The product line was significantly expanded with a broad selection of various acoustic stringed instruments. A woodworker by trade, Dave had owned and operated Matterhorn Millworks, Inc. The company specialized in high quality architectural millwork, cabinetry and specialty wood products. Through out his career as a woodworker Dave had always been interested and engaged in doing instrument set up, repair and lutherie. The desire to combine woodworking and music skills had long been a desire and with the blessing of his loving wife and family a second career for the Lamb’s began.
Today Telluride Music Company is proud to offer one of the finest selections of quality new, used and vintage string instruments that can be found anywhere. We are honored to be an Authorized Dealer for C.F. Martin and Collings Guitars. Additionally we offer a good selection of instrument accessories, reference books, music instruction material, and hard to find music CDs and DVDs. We also provide a music lesson program along with stringed instrument repair services.
